Platamona
On Asinara Gulf, in North-eastern Sardinia, is placed Platamona, known as the beach of Sassari. The landscape is characterized by a white sand and shells beach with natural dunes, behind which lies a thick pine forest. At the bottom of the bay stands the Spanish tower of Abbacurrente, built in the sixteenth century to the sighting of Barbary ships.
Behind the beach and the pine forest you notice a pool of fresh water, the Platamona Pond, a small corner of paradise where rare plants grow and live or periodically migrate red and white herons, flamingos, hawks and many other species of birds. Nearby is worth visiting the archaeological site of Monte Accoddi, ages pre-Nuragic, dominated by a imposing monument similar to a Mesopotamian ziqqurath. Interesting also the church of San Michele Plaianu, Pisan Romanesque style.
A holiday in Platamona is ideal for families who can appreciate the shallow water, suitable for children, both for those who love water sports like surfing and windsurfing.
