Pula is a town of 7,366 inhabitants of the province of Cagliari, in the region of Sulcis-Iglesias.
Pula is a town in the south-west of Cagliari, known in its territory because it preserves the ruins of the great city of Nora, the first Phoenician city of the island. The center was born today in the Middle Ages, but between wars, barbarian invasions and plagues, resumed its growth in the eighteenth century, with an enormous development of the agricultural sector. Some decades ago, the country began another phase of growth through tourism.
The country still has a decent center. In Corso Vittorio Emanuele stands the Museum Patrons, archaeological museum which houses artifacts from Nora. In the church of St. John the Baptist (nineteenth century) in Piazza Giovanni XXIII, are of marble sarcophagi, one of which contains the remains of a duchess Cagliari. Nearby is the Piazza del Popolo, true city living. On the way to Nora meets the aristocratic Villa Santa Maria, designed by architect Gaetano Cima in the first half of the nineteenth century on the ruins of the ancient church of the same name.
Follow the signs to the city of Nora, shortly before the site stands the church of Sant'Efisio (XII century). It was built in the place where the saint was martyred. At the foot of the shrine lies the beach Guvunteddu. A little further along is the lagoon of Nora, in its vicinity has risen recently, the Environmental Education Center, with the aquarium and a series of pools with marine species most representative of the lagoon ecosystem. After the lagoon, always following the coast road, one comes to the beaches of Punta Agumu and Foxi 'salts and, at the only consistent inputs. Nearby is the large tourist village / farm of Santa Margherita di Pula, initially grew around the church dedicated to the Holy Martyr. The vast pine forest was planted after the war, while the agrarian transformation projects, and is now subservient to the tourism sector. On the opposite coast, there are the beaches of Cala d'Ostia, where the marina is located a little further on the beautiful Cala Verde. Most of the inputs for these beaches are located near tourist centers.
Meets the road on the right for Domus de Maria, on which lies the dolmen Santa Margherita. The surrounding countryside to the north of Pula is part of the island's largest forest, which covers the territories of Cagliari and the Sulcis. The forest Pixina Hanna can be reached from an entrance near the golf course of Is Molas, which is practically on the road. By continuing past for several miles to get on a road, which is not allowed to transit vehicles, but you can walk to get to another forest unparalleled to Cannoneris. The latter can be reached by car from a dirt road that starts from the village of Domus de Maria. In the forest of Cannoneris is very easy to observe the Sardinian deer, which lives on here in a very large population. Of these peaks can also go hiking very challenging and spectacular, but you must request information from the men of the forest rangers who patrol the reserve. An excursion is not too complicated to Punta Sebera, which with its 1000 meters, allows outstanding views across the sprawling complex.
