30 kilometrers southeast of Cagliari amidst a fascinating landscape of unspoiled sand dunes, aquamarine inlets and strange rock formations lies Geremeas. Its two long sandy beaches, Spiaggia Geremeas and Spiaggia Cannesisa, are framed by a coastline of unparalleled beauty. Geremeas and Cannesisa also leave nothing to be desired when it comes to scuba diving, and the local scuba diving station takes divers to the best spots.

Torresalinas is located in a non-touristy section of Sardinia’s southern coast and seven kilometres away from the traditional fishing village of Muravera. The sand of this elongated beach is ochre in colour with sprinklings of black crystals and it extends to Colostrai and beyond that to Ferraxi, ending at the cliffs of Capo Ferrato. There’s always plenty of space to sunbathe and frolic here, even in high season. The length of the beach, its silken sand and the shallowness of the water near the shore make Torresalinas an ideal place for children.

And for adults, it’s not only a great place to swim but also a wonderful venue for long strolls on the beach, behind which there is a former nature reserve where flamingos and rare species of bird can sometimes be seen.

Located in the southern portion of idyllic Costa Rei, this elongated sandy beach is replete with picturesque rocky and sandy bays where surrealistically sculptural rock formations make for fanciful musings. Some of these sea-polished stones resemble whales while others bring to mind bears or cormorants. Everywhere you look is glistening aquamarine water so clear that you can see right to the bottom.

Lovely paths wind along the coast through the aromatic maquis to various coves. Inland from Sant’Elmo is hilly terrain and lush green vegetation.

Also worth a visit is Cala Sinzias bay in the south, where superbly swimmable water and the finest of white sandy beaches await you.

This stretch of coast is renowned for its crystal clear water, golden sands and long beaches. It also has a lake system that forms a nature reserve for rare avian species. Costa Rei is bordered by the bays of Sant” Elmo to the south, and to the north by Capo Ferrato, a nature reserve where no construction is allowed. Even a brief visit to Costa Rei is unforgettable thanks to its pine groves, a Roman staircase leading down to the sea, lovely maquis, strange and wonderful marine rock formations and Ferraxi’s sandy bays and offshore islands.

The loveliness of the beach changes with the shifting light at various times of day. The sun rises over the flat and motionless sea, which glitters in an ethereal bluisy grey light. The colors of the sea are at their most intense at noon. The luminous hues vary from turquoise blue to emerald green in waters where the seabed 20 meters below the surface of the water is clearly visible. This fine sandy beach is dotted here and there with rock formations that give way to rocky bays at Sant” Elmo and Capo Ferrato and extend to Villasimius and the island of Serpentara, creating a captivating panorama.
