Orosei is located among Mount Tuttavista, Mount Cedrino and the sea, in the same place where was situated the Roman Fanum Carisii. During the Giudical period the town was an important part of Gallura thanks to its particular position and the harbour. Under Spanish rule the malaria and the pirates caused its decay. In the city centre there are the beautiful Churches of Rosary and of Souls. Nearby the amazing coast and the humid river mouth of Cedrino, where the rare and colourful sultan chiken nidifies.
